Ann Arbor Huron (ranked #1 in the state) won the regional tournament, sweeping all flights.

Final results:

• 1st place – Ann Arbor Huron – 32 points
• 2nd place – Ann Arbor Pioneer – 23 points
• 3rd place – Saline – 15 points
• 4th place – Canton – 10 points
• 5th place tie – Plymouth and Salem – 7 points
• 7th place – Jackson – 5 points
• 8th place – Monroe – 4 points
• 9th place -Temperance Bedford – 1 point
• 10th place – Belleville – 0 points

Plymouth High School Principal Dr. Mike Bee and Plymouth Canton Community Schools (PCCS) Superintendent Dr. Craig Fiegel stopped by the courts to watch and give encouragement to the team.

Though the day started out with freezing temperatures, the Wildcats team members played outstanding matches, earning nine points. Check out the conference photos.

Wildcat team members were seeded in five flights, two more than last season. Andy Mitchell (#4 singles), Max Korpalski/Pat Bailey (#1 doubles), Alex Berk/Wen Ning (#2 doubles), Tom Eggleston/John Lopus (#3 doubles), and Hank Eckardt/Drew Leist (#4 doubles) advanced to the semi-finals.

Novi won first place in the tournament, followed by Northville, Salem, Plymouth in fourth place, and Canton in fifth place. Novi also won the Central Division, while Canton won the South Division.

For the September 6 tournament, Coach Ware said we could use the remaining frozen hamburgers that were bought for this past summer tournaments There are hamburger buns as well, but they may not thaw very well. We may want to buy fresh hamburger buns. Gatorade, pop, and some water are in our refrigerator and could be sold.

There are also some snacks remaining from the summer tournaments. We’ll need some trail mix with M&M’s, licorice(singles), some mixed chips or cookies, and fruit snacks. These items have always sold well. Bagels could be sold in the morning.

Coach Ware commented that unless the Sept 6 tournaments teams are notified in advance that the concession will be open, there will be few concessions sales.

Remember, we have three tournaments we’ll be selling concessions at this fall. We may want to buy in large quantities for better pricing, if we have the storage space.

The park cafe name on the price list sign will need to be changed to Plymouth.

I don’t know who on our team is working concessions; Alex Berk’s mom picked up the volunteer sign up sheets after the parents’ meeting.

It’s possible we still need volunteers to sign up for concessions, either Saturday September 6, conference tournament on Saturday, October 4, or regional tournament on Friday, October 10.

At the parents meeting, Coach Kimball talked about selling pizza at the September 6 tournament concessions, but I don’t have any details.

The team members for 2008-09 have been added to the website roster page. The team member list is also available on our Google Groups site. Once I receive the breakdown on varsity and junior varsity players from Coach Kimball, I’ll update the roster on the website.

For those parents who weren’t able to attend the parents meeting this week, the updated team manual is available for download in the files section on the team’s Google Group site.

If the Wildcats tennis team member is already a member of Huron Valley Tennis Club, payment will be billed. If the team member is not a member of Huron Valley Tennis Club, payment is due the first day of camp (paid to Huron Valley Tennis Club).

Many parents have contacted me about camp dates in August. Yes, there’s confusion! Huron Valley Tennis Club has one date/time, while we have posted a different date/time. When I spoke with Coach Kimball yesterday (July 18), he said he was still working with Huron Valley to set our dates. As soon as I hear from Coach Kimball on what the dates/times are for camp, I’ll update the website and send out a message to the mailing list with the info.
