Sad news: Virginia North dies in head-on collision on M-14

Mrs. Virginia North died in a head-on car crash on M-14 last Thursday, October 22, 2009. Many current and past Plymouth Wildcats tennis players and their parents know Mrs. North from the Ann Arbor Junior Open. She and her husband Clare North (Huron Valley Tennis Club tennis professional) have coordinated the Ann Arbor Junior Open for years. For the past few years, she donated a square picnic table each year to the Park courts after the Junior Open.

Post your condolences and read more about Mrs. North in her obituary. Funeral services will be held at First Congregational Church in Ann Arbor, on State Street on Tuesday, October 27 at 11:00AM.

Bench assembly and installation: October 25, 2009

Bench assembly and installation of the last six benches at the Park courts is planned for Sunday, October 25 2009 at 1:00pm. Parents and team members from all three Park teams will be installing the benches. We’re still looking for volunteers to help (only 1 family has volunteered from our team).

For those interested in volunteering, please bring tools/supplies (bucket, shovel, ratchet, tape measure, and scissors). Each team is responsible for bringing 4 bags of Quikrete cement. One family is bringing a postdigger.

Meet at the concession stand at 1:00pm and look for Salem Coach Lin Ware who will be coordinating the work. See you there and thanks for your help!

Team banquet and pre-banquet activites: Sunday, October 25, 2009

Team players and family members: don’t forget the team banquet is Sunday, October 25th at 6:00pm at the Summit in Canton. Players are invited for some pre-banquet fun beginning at 4:00pm at the Summit.

Get together with your fellow teammates for basketball, swimming, and other fun activities. If you are not a member of the Summit, the cost is $5.00 per person. Showers are available for cleaning up before the banquet.

Hope to see you at the Summit on Sunday at 4:00pm for pre-banquet fun!

One volunteer still needed for concessions this Saturday, October 17

We’re still looking for one parent and their child/student team member to volunteer this Saturday, October 17 from 10am to 1pm for the state tournament concessions. Can you help out? Please comment below if you can volunteer. Canton High School Coach Lehmann is coordinating the volunteers. I can send her an update once we fill all our volunteer spots.

Concession volunteers needed Saturday, October 17

We still need parent volunteers this Saturday, October 17, 2009 to manage concessions at the Division 2 state championship tournament at the Park courts.

The shift is three hours from 10am to 1pm. Thanks to Mrs. Belanger and Mrs. Halpin for volunteering on Friday, October 16. We need two parents and two students to step forward and volunteer. I need to send our schedule to Coach Lin Ware by Wednesday, October 14th.

It’s a great opportunity to give back to the team, our team shares in the concession profits, and see some fantastic tennis. Coach Kimball’s son on the Dexter team will be playing in the state tournament as well as top 10 Southeast Michigan ranked boys age 16 and under players.

Plymouth tennis wins 4th at regionals; Aaron Zhang qualifies for state tournament

Plymouth varsity tennis earned 10 points to place 4th at the Division 1 regional tournament held Saturday, October 10 at the Park courts. Senior player Patrick Onoro returned to play #1 doubles after five weeks off the season due to injury. Competition was fierce with Ann Arbor Huron, Ann Arbor Pioneer, and Saline High Schools winning first, second, and third place respectively.

The big news of the day was #1 singles player Aaron Zhang making it to the finals for regionals.

Aaron qualifies to attend the Division 1 state tournament in Midland, Michigan that begins Friday, October 16. He’s the first Plymouth High School player to qualify for the state championship.

Way to go team! Good luck Aaron at the state championships later this week.

Regionals tournament postponed to October 10, 2009

According to HighSchoolSports.net, today’s regional tournament (October 9, 2009) has been postponed to Saturday, October 10, 2009.

Conference tournament schedule update

For all varsity players attending the KLAA conference tournament on Saturday, October 3, 2009, meet at Novi Middle School at 8:00am (not at the high school).

Novi Middle School is located at 49000 West 11 Mile Road in Novi Michigan (map).

If it’s raining the day of the tournament, the tournament organizers don’t plan to cancel until about 11am. If the conference tournament is canceled, the team will take a bus on Monday, October 5, 2009 after school (2:25pm) to Novi to begin the tournament. We will take a bus back to Novi at 7:00am Tuesday, October 6, 2009 and play until the tournament is completed (indoors if necessary).

School business forms will be given to players for missing class if needed on Tuesday, and again on Friday for the regional tournament. Regionals will be Friday, October 9, 2009, all day at PCEP.

Concession volunteers needed for October 16 & 17, 2009

As hosts for the Division 2 state tournament that will be held October 16 and 17, 2009 at the Park courts, we’ll be offering concessions for the teams and fans. Volunteers are needed to man the concession stand from 10am to 1pm. We need two parents and two students scheduled for each shift.
