2011 Regional Tournament 10-7-11

Ann Arbor PIoneer High School/Saline High School will be the host for the Regional Tournament this Friday, October 7. The players will be driven to the tournament by Plymouth/Canton school bus which will leave from the Phase 3 building at 7am.

One bus will transport all three schools’ varsity players. The bus will be bringing the players back to PCEP after the tournament.

2,3,4 singles will be playing at Saline HS. Everyone else will play at Pioneer HS.

Each player should bring water and food. If anyone wishes to volunteer to bring something, please contact Coach Kimball.

Conference schedule Saturday Oct. 1

This Saturday is the Conference matches at Novi High School. Players will need to get rides with a parent both ways. They can also ride with someone else if that parent has supplied a copy of their driver’s license and insurance.

The team should meet at Novi HS at 7:30am. Some of the players will be sent to Novi Middle School to play. Play is expected to begin at 8am. It is single elimination and it’s possible that some players will be eliminated early. The team is expected to stay until all teammates are eliminated; only then will the team leave.

Since we will be spread across two sites, players should bring plenty of food/drinks.

Schedule Updates and Pictures

After a rainy week, we have the following schedule changes:

The Franklin match, Away, is rescheduled for 9/21.

The Wayne match, Home, is rescheduled for 9/19.

The Wildcat Invite, like all Invitational’s, can not be rescheduled.

Team pictures are this Wednesday, 9/14 @ 3:00pm, practice will follow. Order envelopes will be handed out on Mon or Tue.

The Dexter Tournament is this Saturday. Players (Varsity Only) must be at Dexter High School by 7:40am. We need parent volunteers to set up a nice lunch for this day for 14 people. (Keep receipts to be reimbursed by the booster club account).

A new JV tournament is now added for 9/24, home, details to follow.

Season Update

The season schedule and team roster were distributed to the players this week at practice.

New this year : There will be NO return bus ride after a weekday match. Players must be picked up by their parents or ride with another parent if that parent has their driver’s license and car insurance information on file with Coach Kimball.

Tournament play: Currently there is no bus service to away tournaments; players must ride with their own parent, or with another parent whose driver’s license and car insurance information is on file with Coach Kimball.

October 11 Week Update

Monday Cotober 11 – the bus leaves Plymouth at 2:30 p.m. to travel to Howell for the tournament.

Tuesday October 12 – there is an optional/informal mixed doubles event set up after school with Salem and Canton.

Wednesday October 13 – Team pictures at 2:45 in the gym. Players should get an order form from the athletic office, near the gym. Players must be in uniform. (Bring BOTH shirts). When the pictures are finished, they will check in their warmup with a coach. If they fail to turn in the warmup, there will be a $100 charge added to their student account. Aaron will get an extension, since he will need to wear his warmup on Friday, when he plays in the State Finals! CONGRATULATIONS AARON!!!!

Plymouth tennis wins 4th at regionals; Aaron Zhang qualifies for state tournament

Plymouth varsity tennis earned 10 points to place 4th at the Division 1 regional tournament held Saturday, October 10 at the Park courts. Senior player Patrick Onoro returned to play #1 doubles after five weeks off the season due to injury. Competition was fierce with Ann Arbor Huron, Ann Arbor Pioneer, and Saline High Schools winning first, second, and third place respectively.

The big news of the day was #1 singles player Aaron Zhang making it to the finals for regionals.

Aaron qualifies to attend the Division 1 state tournament in Midland, Michigan that begins Friday, October 16. He’s the first Plymouth High School player to qualify for the state championship.

Way to go team! Good luck Aaron at the state championships later this week.

Conference tournament schedule update

For all varsity players attending the KLAA conference tournament on Saturday, October 3, 2009, meet at Novi Middle School at 8:00am (not at the high school).

Novi Middle School is located at 49000 West 11 Mile Road in Novi Michigan (map).

If it’s raining the day of the tournament, the tournament organizers don’t plan to cancel until about 11am. If the conference tournament is canceled, the team will take a bus on Monday, October 5, 2009 after school (2:25pm) to Novi to begin the tournament. We will take a bus back to Novi at 7:00am Tuesday, October 6, 2009 and play until the tournament is completed (indoors if necessary).

School business forms will be given to players for missing class if needed on Tuesday, and again on Friday for the regional tournament. Regionals will be Friday, October 9, 2009, all day at PCEP.

Saturday, September 26, 2009 Holly Tournament update

Coach Kimball wants the varsity players to meet at Holly High School (map) at 7:30am on Saturday, September 26, 2009. The tournament will take place, rain or shine. If it’s raining tomorrow, the matches will be played indoors.

Wildcats win Dexter Quad Tournament

Plymouth boys varsity tennis grabbed their first tournament championship of the 2009-10 season as they beat three other teams on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Dexter Quad round robin tournament at Dexter High School.

Plymouth Wildcat players took home medals in every flight in their matches against players from Dexter, Woodhaven and Gabriel Richard High Schools. The Wildcats faced stiff competition from Dexter for the championship in the early afternoon, but claimed first place as #2 doubles team of Drew Leist and Ian Fleming and #3 doubles team of David Choos and Josh Heinze won their 3rd round matches.

Dexter Invitational Tournament Driving

If you’re a parent driving to the Dexter Tournament, and haven’t handed in the driver permission form, copies of your driver license and proof of insurance to Mrs. Fleming today, call her to arrange to drop off your copies. Her phone number is listed in the roster on Google Groups.

Coach Kimball estimates it will take about 30 minutes to drive to the tournament. In the past, team members have met at the Plymouth High School parking lot, near the athletic doors, to car pool to the tournaments. If you’re interested in car pooling, talk with your fellow varsity players to organize car pool drivers before Saturday.
